Today's beer adventure: Boulevard Brewing Double-Wide IPA (Missouri, USA). 355ml Bottle. 8.5% ABV. Served in pint glass. Purchased in Minot, ND by my good buddy Derek Barnes! No idea about price! Who cares!?!?The pour is brown with ruby red highlights. Head is HUGE, with copious rocky bubbles that last seemingly forever. Lacing is MASSIVE! Nose is of pine, grapefruit, blackberry(?) and unripe orange.Flavour is (consults the thesaurus) GIGANTIC! Heavy citrus - orange being prominent - and pine needles. Coriander and cloves, with malty sweetness in the backend. Pleasingly bitter finish. This is one sweet IPA.Rating is 9/10 dogs. This beer made me instantly wish I had more than two in the fridge. Wowee! Big hops, sweet palate, fun beer! Maybe not as dry as some might like, but this reviewer LIKE! Today's beer adventure: Bushwakker Bombay IPA (Regina, SK). On tap at brewpub. 6.8% ABV. Served Bushwakker pint glass. Two litre bottle purchased for takeaway at The Bushwakker Brewpub for $15.00.
The pour is deep hazy amber. One inch of white fluffy head dissipates into a small ring. Nose is of citrusy hops, strawberry(huh?), sweet malt.
The flavour is a bit floral and pine-y but mostly lemon, slightly grapefruit, and even slighter orange backed up by solid malt. Finish is a bit dry and lingers with the lemon.
Rating is 7.5/10 dogs. This is the biggest hoppy beer that the mighty Bushwakker produces regularly, and there was a time not so long ago that this beer was FAR too hoppy for me. My adventures have exposed me to many many new flavours, and this one is not nearly what I thought it was. The Bombay IPA is more malty than most of it's contemporaries (New Belgium Ranger IPA, Deschutes Red Chair NWPA, etc) that I have reviewed. This is a solid session IPA.

Today's beer adventure: Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René Lambic (Belgium). 355ml Bottle. 5.0% ABV. Served in large wine glass. Given to me by an excellent client who didn't enjoy it themselves, but thought I might like it. They purchased at Willow Park Wine and Spirits. The pour is hazy hazy reddish yellow. Like hazy apple juice. Big fluffy white head, quickly disappearing to a pleasing white ring. Nose is musty, overripe fruits, slight hockey bag. The sour beer is IN YOUR FACE, then really quiet and respectful. Flavour is of overripe apples, lemon, slight slight malt. Very tart. Finish is dry as a bone and a bit sweet, oddly. The flavour is there and gone. Like Batman. If Batman was a sour lambic. Which he isn't.Rating is 7.5/10 dogs. The sour lambics aren't a style I have had much exposure to, but after trying this, I would certainly try the style again. The further I get into the glass, the better it tastes. What other people think: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/187/6104
Today's beer adventure: Westmalle Dubbel (Belgium). 330ml Bottle. 7.0% ABV. Served in large wine glass. Purchased at Willow Park Wine and Spirits @ ~$5.00/bottle.The pour is dark brown with ruby highlights when shown to the light. Large amount of quickly dissipating head. Nose is bready, slightly woody, concord grapes. Raisins. Tart apple. Yummy. The beer is lively on the tongue, sharp and very dry. Flavour is the same as the nose, but more. More bread, more wood, more grapes and raisins. Nutty as the beer opens up a bit.
Rating is 8.75/10 dogs. Somehow this beer is simple and complex at the same time. The nose changes as you taste it and as the beer warms in the glass. The taste changes and becomes more mellow. Dare I say it is refreshing? Very nice Dubbel. What other people think: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/westmalle-dubbel/2205/
