review: Westmalle Dubbel

Today's beer adventure: Westmalle Dubbel (Belgium). 330ml Bottle. 7.0% ABV. Served in large wine glass. Purchased at Willow Park Wine and Spirits @ ~$5.00/bottle.

The pour is dark brown with ruby highlights when shown to the light. Large amount of quickly dissipating head. Nose is bready, slightly woody, concord grapes. Raisins. Tart apple. Yummy.

The beer is lively on the tongue, sharp and very dry. Flavour is the same as the nose, but more. More bread, more wood, more grapes and raisins. Nutty as the beer opens up a bit.

Rating is 8.75/10 dogs. Somehow this beer is simple and complex at the same time. The nose changes as you taste it and as the beer warms in the glass. The taste changes and becomes more mellow. Dare I say it is refreshing? Very nice Dubbel.
