review: Bushwakker Bombay IPA

From Friday April 6, 2012.

Today's beer adventure: Bushwakker Bombay IPA (Regina, SK). On tap at brewpub. 6.8% ABV. Served Bushwakker pint glass. Two litre bottle purchased for takeaway at The Bushwakker Brewpub for $15.00.

The pour is deep hazy amber. One inch of white fluffy head dissipates into a small ring. Nose is of citrusy hops, strawberry(huh?), sweet malt.

The flavour is a bit floral and pine-y but mostly lemon, slightly grapefruit, and even slighter orange backed up by solid malt. Finish is a bit dry and lingers with the lemon.

Rating is 7.5/10 dogs. This is the biggest hoppy beer that the mighty Bushwakker produces regularly, and there was a time not so long ago that this beer was FAR too hoppy for me. My adventures have exposed me to many many new flavours, and this one is not nearly what I thought it was. The Bombay IPA is more malty than most of it's contemporaries (New Belgium Ranger IPA, Deschutes Red Chair NWPA, etc) that I have reviewed. This is a solid session IPA.
