review: Affligem Blond Abbey Ale

From January 27, 2012..

Today's Beer Adventure: Affligem Blond Abbey Ale. 6.8% ABV. Bottle conditioned. Purchased at SLGA. ~$3.75/330ml Bottle. Served in my stolen Boston Pizza pint glass. Again.

The pour is hazy amber/gold. Massive rocky white head. 3-4 fingers worth. Lots of bubbly carbonation - I imagine due to the bottle conditioning. The head lasts forever.

The nose is funky like James Brown's jockstrap on a hot Alabama day. THAT funky. Not certain how exactly to describe it. Spicy..maybe ripe pineapple?

Taste is a bit dry? Honey, grainy, metallic (like copper?), apples, salt. The further I get into the glass, the drier it becomes....

I am a HUGE fan of trappist/abbey beers. This one for me, although quite drinkable, is not a favourite. Too dry for me for the style. Maybe great on a hot day? It's only OK for me. 6.5/10
