review: Shipyard Smashed Blueberry Ale

From December 27, 2011:

Tonight's beer adventure: Shipyard Smashed Blueberry Ale. Purchased at Willow Park Wine and Spirits in Regina. 710ml bottle. Approximately $12.00 (I think!).

Bought this at the recommendation of a co-worker who is a beer aficionado and sampled it at a tasting sponsored by Willow Park. The beer is purported to be a combination of a porter and a scotch ale (yay!) with a splash of blueberry.

The pour is DARK. Huge, long lasting head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate and blueberry. Yummy. The mouthfeel is creamy, rich and roasty. Not too fruity (I had been advised of this by my co-worker). Lots of roasted malt, a bit of smoke. Dark chocolate covered blueberries. Pleasing finish..it hangs on for the precisely correct amount of time. It begs you to come back for another mouthful.

Damn, I like this. I like this a lot. Not sure if Bushwakker Brewing Company would bring it in as an import, but I would certainly buy it if they did.
